Bestival App

UI/UX and Graphic Design
Project Overview
Bestival is a mobile app designed for a music festival! It's got all the information you need to know about the event, including the schedule, artists, performance reminders, travel info and more.
My Role
I designed the user experience and interface of the app as part of my TAFE course project, and performed the following tasks:
  • Ideation and User Research
  • Sketching and Wireframing
  • Prototyping with Figma

Design Process

I used a 5-stage Design Thinking model proposed by the Hasso Plattner Institute of Design at Stanford (the "d. school"). The stages of this Design Thinking process are as follows:
1. Empathise, 2. Define, 3. Ideate, 4. Prototype, 5. Test.

Design Toolkit

Competitor Analysis

The first step was to analyse the competitors and get familiar with the existing festival products, their pros and cons, and user’s reviews.

Persona

I created the following personas to understand typical users' needs and desires which in turn helps me build more usable product.

Ideation

Crazy 8's and Sketching
I used Crazy 8's fast sketching method to sketch eight distinct ideas in eight minutes. The goal is to generate different solutions to our challenge. I usually use an online Crazy 8s Interval Timer like designsprintx.

User Journey

User Flow

Wireframe & Prototype

UEQ Test

After performing the usability test, I used Dr. Martin Schrepp's User Experience Questionnaire (UEQ) to measure the User Experience of the product. The scales of the questionnaire cover a comprehensive impression of user experience. Both classical usability aspects (efficiency, perspicuity, dependability) and user experience aspects (originality, stimulation) are measured.

Style Guide

I used Zeplin to generate the style guide, including the colors, text styles, and components.

Accessibility

Bestival app is designed to be accessible and usable for everyone. I tried to design based on the accessibility standards and guidelines like W3C's Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 and Google's "Accessibility for Teams" to bring a better experience to the user.
